PDP Afterglow™
Dual Charger & Control Hub
Overview
PDP (Performance Designed Products) is a global leader in gaming peripherals. My role as a Product Designer was dual-faceted: developing the physical aesthetic and functionality of the Afterglow Wave Dual Charger and architecting the PDP Control Hub mobile app. This project required a holistic approach to ensure that the hardware's tactile experience matched the digital interface's fluidity.
Hardware Design: Afterglow Wave Dual Charger
The objective was to create a charging solution that didn't just sit on a desk but became a part of the gamer’s visual setup.
Sleek Functionality: I focused on a form factor that ensures intuitive "drop-and-charge" placement, reducing friction for the user.
Vibrant Aesthetics: Integrating the "Wave" lighting DNA into the charger’s base to create a cohesive look with the Afterglow controller line.
User Convenience: Every curve was designed to balance stability with a minimal footprint, ensuring the charger is as practical as it is visually striking.
Digital Interface: PDP Control Hub Mobile App
The mobile app serves as the brain of the ecosystem, allowing for deep customization of the gaming experience.
Seamless Optimization: I designed the UX flow to allow gamers to rebind buttons, adjust dead zones, and customize lighting profiles with zero learning curve.
User-Centric Navigation: By prioritizing the most used features in a "thumb-friendly" layout, I ensured that performance tuning could happen quickly between gaming sessions.
Visual Synergy: The app’s UI reflects the high-tech, neon-infused aesthetic of the Afterglow hardware, creating a unified brand experience.
The Synergy
The true innovation lay in the connected experience. By designing both the physical charger and the mobile hub, I ensured a consistent design language. The result is an ecosystem that elevates gaming convenience through personalization, moving beyond simple utility into a premium lifestyle product for major platforms.
